Shakespeare’s ‘Macbeth’ adaptation on stage in Tehran

An adaptation of William Shakespeare’s tragedy ‘Macbeth’ has been put on stage at a theater hall in the Iranian capital city of Tehran.

After one-and-half years of rehearsal, Iranian director Seyed Reza Mousavi’s ‘Should Have Died Hereafter’ opened earlier this week at the main hall of Molavi Theater in Tehran.

The long and complicated process of rehearsal is due to the synchronization between speech techniques, music tempo and body movements between members of the theater group as well as graduates from various art majors.

The adaptation is “character-oriented and has three major roles. Music, physical movements and special techniques in body performance are new in the show,” said dramaturge of the play, Ehsan Zivaralam.

Cast members include Fariba Talebi, Iraj Tadayon, Tara Hejrat, Negar Salahshour, Fatemeh Sohani, Naghmeh Gorjianmanesh, Salar Samadian, Fahimeh Qanbari, Niki Ebrahim Shah and Elnaz Marefatkhah.

English playwright William Shakespeare’s ‘Macbeth’ dramatizes the deleterious physical and psychological effects of political ambition on those who seek power for its own sake. The play is thought to have been first performed in 1606.
